Daria T. Okugawa, Director

Daria received her Alexander training from the Alexander Teaching Associates in London, England and is an AmSAT certified teacher with more than 26 years experience. She is the director and founder of The Alexander Technique Training Center.

Her interest in the Alexander Technique grew from her extensive background in theatre. Daria earned her BFA from Carnegie Mellon University and continued her graduate education at The Professional Actor’s Training Program (PATP) at The University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee. She continues performing in local theatres such as Live Arts, enjoying roles like Bella in, “Lost and Yonkers”, Mary in “The Women” and Flavia in “Noises Off”, at Heritage Theatre in the role of Reba in “Last Night of Ballyhoo” and Mrs Graves in “Enchanted April” and Four County Players as Maureen in “The Beauty Queen of Leenane” and Vera in “Harvey”.

Currently performing as Stevie at Live Arts in the upcoming production of Edward Albee’s Pulitzer Prize winning play “The Goat: or Who Is Sylvia”, opening January 2008

She has taught the Alexander Technique for Robert Frippe’s League of Crafty Guitarists throughout Europe and the United States, for the Kluge Children’s Rehabilitation Center, the Charlottesville Senior Center, Innesfree Village, the Virginia School of Massage, The Dogwood Institute, The University of Virginia and was the co-director for Live Arts Teen Theatre ensemble ( LA:T4) 2005-2006.

Daria is a certified teacher of Hatha Yoga and enjoys integrating the work of the Alexander Technique with the practice and teaching of yoga. She currently teaches both the Alexander Technique and Yoga for ACAC downtown (Atlantic Coastal Athletic Club).
